Five more players have signed on the dotted line for Guiseley, making nine in all.

Joining Gavin Rothery, Jack Rea, Wayne Brooksby and Zack Dale in the Lions’ squad for 2013-14 are skipper Mark Bower, Rhys Meynell, Jake Lawlor, Macauley Parkinson and Andy Holdsworth.

Eight of them are on one-year deals, with experienced defender Holdsworth putting his name to a two-year contract.

Meynell came to Guiseley last summer from Stalybridge Celtic, while Lawlor was a mid-season addition from Harrogate Railway. Central defender Bower will stay as player-coach, while teenager Parkin-son, who was loaned to Ossett Town last season, is considered a real prospect.

Guiseley manager Steve Kittrick said: “I will probably be looking at operating with an 18-man squad.”

He said of the contract negotia-tions: “Players often think they are worth more than we can afford to pay them, especially after a successful season.”

Of his latest batch of five signings, Kittrick said: “Mark has a great pedigree and is a good player. I know he had one or two injuries last year but he brings a lot to us on and off the field.

“Rhys did well last year and we have offered him the same contract as last season, which he has signed, while Jake is a good lad too and is only 21.

“Macauley is only 17 and is a good full back. It is his first contract and we are expecting big things of him.

“Andy, tongue in cheek, is a full back who thinks he is a midfielder! But he is happy here and knows the place well.”
