SSE National League Two North
Broadstreet 37
Otley 27
AHEAD 17-3 after 12 minutes and looking in complete command, Otley contrived to lose this match having bossed scrum and line-out.
Curiously, the visitors conceded 17 points during the 20 minutes Broadstreet were a player short due to consecutive yellow cards.
Winning a turnover at the kick-off, two smart passes put Harry Hudson in at the corner for Otley, Stephen Depledge duly converting before kicking a penalty three minutes later.
Fly half Ben Palmer replied with a ninth-minute penalty but, keeping up the pressure, James White cut through to get the ball to Hudson, who made it look easy as he raced 60 metres to the line, Depledge again converting.
Now, instead of making the game secure, Otley’s concentration drifted, as did their decision making, handing Broadstreet the impetus and, in effect, the game.
Full back Barry Davies was allowed to run through the middle and centre Andy Murray also broke through, Palmer, who was successful with every kick, converting twice to level the scores.
Otley winger Alex Beaumont then showed a turn of speed to score wide out, but Palmer replied with a penalty.
A try from centre Nathan Tilsley five minutes after the break, however, had the home side ahead, Palmer quickly following this with a penalty.
Then, on 68 minutes, winger Jefferey Gibson intercepted on halfway to run to the posts and the game was over, despite Beaumont's 74th-minute try.
