Flood heading in right direction

Guiseley's Debbie Flood continued her forward progress last weekend by reaching the women’s single scull final at the final World Cup Meet of the season in Switzerland.

Flood, who is still coming to terms with being back in full training after a year out, flew down the first 1000 metres before fading slightly in the second half, taking fifth place.

“It’s a really good step up from Bled, where I was ninth”, said Flood, referring to the first World Cup Meet of 2010 in Slovenia.

The weekend before Lucerne, Flood was in action at Henley Royal Regatta where, despite overwhelming support in an emotional race, she was beaten in the semi-final by world bronze medallist Mirka Knapkova of the Czech Republic.

Flood only returned to full-time training in April after working in the Prison Service.
