THE Hawks got their first win of the season with an emphatic ten-wicket triumph over The Penguins at Cracoe.

After winning the toss, the visitors opted to bat and were always under pressure losing wickets steadily against an organised bowling attack, for once backed up with competent fielding.

Will Garforth bowled with a good deal of variety in line as well as length, as he took 3-23.

He was very ably assisted by 12-year-old Eddie Batchelor who took 2-6 off six tidy overs.

The Penguins were not helped by two run outs as they were bowled out for 79 in 32 overs.

The Hawks easily reached their target of 80 with stalwarts Pete Riley (38no) and Ted Lester (41no) seeing the hosts home in just nine overs.

The openers hit 13 fours and three sixes as the match finished just before heavy rain came.

This Sunday the Hawks visit the fantastic setting of Swinton House Estate near Masham for a match starting at 1.30pm.
