STILL stinging from Saturday’s league defeat by Otley that sent them into the bottom two of Aire-Wharfe League Division One, Horsforth turned the tables the following day by knocking the holders out of this year’s competition.

A surprise didn’t look on the cards when Nathan Goldthorp and Stephen Brown picked up three cheap wickets each, restricting Horsforth to 146 in which only Charlie Swallow (46) and Corey Barsby (29) had much say.

But Michael Kitson (3-28) and Jack Rich (3-19) returned the favour and, despite the efforts of No 8 Matt O’Grady (20), Otley crashed for 103.

Horsforth will now face the formidable challenge of league leaders Beckwithshaw, who eased through after dismissing Rawdon for just 90.

Ricky Palacio hit 11 fours and five sixes in making 120 and, together with Dan Ellis (42) and Ted Haggas (51), steered Addingham to 289-7.

Third Division Bardsey put up a spirited response, and their last pair, Josh Hughes (60) and Keon Williams (36), gave Addingham some nervous moments but Ellis (3-34) and Jack DeAth (4-33) booked the home side’s place in the next round.

There they will meet Burley, who won a high-scoring encounter with league new boys Saltaire.

An impressive display by Saltaire’s middle order – Hammad Ul Hassan (68), Bilal Hamid (88), Adeel Ashraf (50) and Amjid Hussain (41) – saw them set a target of 301-9.

But Burley were up to the challenge, with Nick Brook (60) laying the foundations and Jason Wright (83no) seeing them past the post with five wickets and two overs in hand.

The two-division gap was too much for Menston to bridge, Pool passing their 136 total comfortably after a century opening stand from Charlie Bell (66no) and David Paynter (47).

Pool will entertain Ilkley in the next round after Paul Dover (36no) and Andy Rhodes (45no) saw them recover from a slight wobble to set a target of 227-6.

Most of Harden’s top order seemed to be getting set, only to get out under pressure from Henry Wilson (3-44) and Will Spivey (3-23), and they were dismissed for 173.

Tong Park Esholt were victims of a giant-killing when the other league new boys, St Chad’s Broomfield, beat them by four wickets.

Nadeem Mohammed (48) and Mahir Ali (42) top-scored in Park’s 175 but it just wasn’t enough.

Green Lane found championship challengers Bilton too hot to handle, being bowled out for 89 on the way to a seven-wicket defeat.
