THE heat was on for Otley AC’s runners who tackled Sunday’s Asda 10k in humid conditions.

It was one of their former members, Jamil Parapia, now running for Leeds City, who won the event in 31.51. Hannah Oldroyd (Saltaire Striders) was first lady finisher in 36.52.

Otley’s finishers were Zack Whitehead 34.56, Gary Johnson 40:59, Cadan Hoare 41.32, Marcus Adams 42.12, Howard Jeffery 43.50,Nicola Lee 45:36, Peter Gosling 50.40, Eriks Zvaigzne 50.51, Melvin Hoare 50.33; Reid Haddow 54.52, Sean O’Halloran 1.07.46.

Howard Jeffery, who claimed second in the V60 category, praised the race and the support for it. He said: “The conditions were very muggy so it all felt like hard work but the crowds were out in strength and very vocal at the finish which was great.”

In the Todmorden 5k, Mark Hall set yet another V55 record and won the V55 Yorkshire Veterans Championship in a time of 17.24.

This five-lap course required runners to almost stop as they turned 180 degrees to return. The race was won by Jason Parker (Preston Harriers) in 16.41.

Otley fielded six teams at the Danefield Relays last Thursday, which saw a few alterations to the traditional route due to winter tree felling.

Although a similar distance, the amended route took in a steeper gradient which provided an added challenge for the runners.

The relay was won by Pudsey & Bramley A in 55:46.

The club’s teams that tackled the event were, Otley AC (Andrew Robertshaw, Graham Lake, Liam Dunne), 1:00:41, Otley AC Terriers (Tom Lynch, Steve Robinson, Tom Pomfrett), 1:04:39, Otley Olympians (James Rawstron, Michael Hastings, Andy Webster), 1:15:34, Otley Best (Colin Best, Kirsty Pomfrett, Vikki Butler), 1:21:22, Otley Gruffalos (Caron Ralph, Serena Blackburn, Liz Fawcett), 1:24:38, Three Old Plebs (Dominic Egan, Steve Darby, Will Kerr), 1:12:02.

Holly Davey took first place at the girls Arena Group Leeds Junior Run.

The 2.5km run, which provides an introduction to mass participation for 9-14 year olds, attracted hundreds of young runners, including other Otley juniors, Aston Brogden, Jensen Brogden and Charlotte Rawstron.

Jensen Brogden came third in the boys’ race. Jessica Rawstron also took part in the mini run for the under-nines
