OTLEY AC’s Scott Harrington ventured to Suffolk at the weekend for the Tarpley 20 where he broke the previous course record while finishing second.

His time of 1:53:10 saw him finish only 14 seconds behind the winner Alan Darby (Ely Runners). The first lady was Charlotte Rose (City of Norwich) who finished in 21st overall place in 2:13:45.

A trio of Otley runner took part in the Harewood Half-Marathon which saw Howard Jeffrey finish in 1:42:14, Andy Barker in 1:46:05 and Jane Butler in 2:12:33.

The winner was Martin Proctor in 1:17:28 and the first lady was lady Rhiannon Parsons in 1:36:34.

In the Saucony English National Cross Country Championships at Donnington Park, Sean O’Halloran finished the three lap course of eight miles in 1:30:13. The winner was Jonathan Hay (Aldershot Farnham & District) in 42:09.

O’Halloran said: “Sometimes you finish a race and say to yourself ‘was that it’ and feel unsatisfied knowing you could have given more. Occasionally you finish a race completely spent and wonder how you are going to make it back to the car. Well I was wondering how I was going to make it to the changing tent let alone the car.”

In the club’s Eccup Alwoodley Lane Handicap, James Kettleborough won ahead of Nicola Lee and Tom Pomfrett.

Pomfrett recorded the fastest time of the day and moved to the top of the table on 38 points, ahead of Laura Hind and Phil Robinson both on 31.
