Guiseley manager Steve Kittrick is calling for more creativity up front after his Blue Square Bet North side fell to their first defeat of the season on Tuesday night.

The Lions followed up their com-prehensive 3-0 home victory over Hinckley United last Saturday with a 2-0 setback at Droylsden.

Kittrick said: “We were fine defen-sively and in midfield but we just needed a bit more inventiveness up front.

“However, having said that we must have had 70 per cent territory and possession in the second half and I thought we were going to come away with a draw.

“Droylsden are a good side and their goals came in the 71st and 76th minutes.

“We had the better chances in the first half, and in the second half we had a good spell for 25 minutes and played really well.”

Kittrick said of the goals conceded: “We were caught out for the first by a ball over the top.

“Clarky (Jamie Clarke) got back and played the ball but it went on to their lad’s leg and bobbled in.

“We could have dealt with the second goal a bit better, however. We had chances to clear our lines.

“The ball was laid out to Clarky and he slipped and gave their lad a chance to get round us and score.

“Steve Drench only had three shots to save, and two of them went in but we are still getting used to each other. Once we all start singing off the same hymn sheet we will be fine.”

Drench did not have a shot to save against Hinckley, and Kittrick said: “We played quite well.

“The first game of the season is always funny because you know what to expect from your own players but not from the opposition.”

Danny Boshell, Ciaran Toner and substitute Gavin Allott got the goals, and Kittrick added: “If Allott gets ten goals during the season, Gavin Rothery gets ten and Joe O’Neill gets ten that will be great because last season we were relying on one person (James Walshaw). Also we’ll be able to get goals from elsewhere.

“Gavin Allott has got a lot to learn as he’s not played at this level before.

“He’s a rough, raw centre forward but you can see what he can do – it was a great header and he’s quite quick for a big lad.”

On Saturday, Guiseley are at Solihull Moors, who have lost their first two matches – 3-1 at Gainsborough and 2-0 at home to Eastwood Town.

“That will make it difficult as they will be looking to get off the mark,” said Kittrick. “I expect they have kept the nucleus from last season.”
