Burley continued their impressive start to the Aire-Wharfe League season with a seven-wicket win at Guiseley and extended their lead at the top of Division One thanks to a thrilling match between Rawdon and second-placed Beckwithshaw.

Last season’s runners-up Rawdon had failed to pick up a single point in their opening five games, and few gave them a chance against the defending champions who started the day just a point behind Burley.

But Rawdon never gave the visiting batsmen a chance to settle and with Stuart Dobson (5-36) and John Hughes (4-44) going well, Beckwithshaw were dismissed for 157.

Jamie Pickering (55) gave Rawdon a good start but they too found it hard to protect their wicket and were still seven runs short of victory when the ninth wicket fell.

Duncan Stow hit a mighty six to square the scores but his next effort was caught at mid-off, leaving the teams to share the six points.

Adam Waite followed up last week’s Waddilove Cup century with another fine knock (108 not out) as Guiseley reached 201-7 – their best score so far this season.

But Burley were not to be denied and Charlie Davy (68no) and David Brook (57no) steered them to their fifth win.

Green Lane remain in third place, despite going down to defeat at Otley, who move within a point of them.

Fine spells from John Brough (5-41 off 14.4 overs) and George Ross (3-56 from 14 overs) helped restrict Lane to 188, with Yassir Ali hitting 57 after the visitors won the toss.

The spinners did the damage but Otley themselves were struggling at 91-6 only for youngsters George Huntley (45) and Ricky Halloran (41) to put on 78 and set up a two-wicket win.

Crucially, the final runs came in the two overs handed to Otley by Green Lane, who did not bat their overs out before tea.

Nasser Jamal (5-50) and Mahir Ali (4-73) restricted Collingham to 203 but the Thackley batsmen found the going hard and they were dismissed for 176.

Jeremy Batty (4-41), Richard Wear (3-35) and Phil Leng (3-45) dismissed Silsden for 179 before Batty (84) and Anthony Bairstow (34) put on a century stand as Harden won by four wickets to remain top of Division Two.

Gareth Lee (6-44) had Bolton Villas struggling to a total of 171 but Mike Oldfield turned the tables and his 5-17 saw Calverley skittled out for 86 for a win that lifted Villas off the bottom of the table.

Nadeem Hanif (4-56) took his wicket tally to 21 in the last four games as Olicanian set a target of 188-9, with Ali Long (53) and No 10 batsman Matt House (32no) leading the way. Bernard Hughes (7-59) made sure Tong Park Esholt couldn’t settle and they were bowled out for 154.

With only one win in each of the last two seasons, Addingham’s fortunes seem to have turned as they notched their second successive victory, beating Bardsey by five wickets and jumping to eighth in Division Three.

Richard Hey’s four-wicket spell saw the home side dismissed for 165 and Ricky Palacios (45) and Andy Murray (40) led Addingham’s successful run chase.

Sean Atkinson (82) and Ben Waller (50) top scored as Hall Park crushed Alwoodley while Chris Binks (80) and Sean Nesbitt (77) led Horsforth to victory at Woodhouse.
