OTLEY’S National Division One derby clash with Wharfedale at Cross Green last Saturday fell victim to the weather.

With the Cross Green pitch covered in snow there was no prospect of play in this eagerly awaited clash.

Otley club spokesman Mike Gillson said: “A relaxation of League rules in light of the national weather situation, allowed an early postponement of Saturday’s match, which was agreed with Wharfedale and the league.

“Wharfedale do not have a spare Saturday left all season, due to previous re-arranged fixtures, so it looks as if this derby clash will be re-scheduled for May.”

Last night, Wednesday, there was a members’ information meeting in the clubhouse which included a summary of progress to date and funding initiatives.

The meeting was open to members only and there was an opportunity to put questions to the committee.

This Saturday’s match at Blackheath is dependent on a 3pm pitch inspection on Friday.

Gillson said: “The information coming from Blackheath is that they are letting the snow thaw on their pitch naturally and it is clearing with the weather.

“Warmer temperatures are forecast for London this week and they did a lot of work last weekend clearing snow from the ground and the all-weather pitch.

“The all- weather pitch is RFU approved and could host a game and that option is currently under discussion, as it requires mutual consent from both sides.

“In short, the prospects of playing the game are good, as snow is clearing fast.
