THE second of the Complete Runner West Yorkshire Cross-Country League races was staged by Skyrac AC over a challenging, muddy course at Nunroyd Park in Yeadon on Sunday.

The senior men’s winner was Gorge Thomas of Pudsey and Bramley in 41:59 followed by Martin Hilton of Leeds City in 42:43 with Bingley Harrier Andy Peace third in 43:09.

The women’s race was won by Becky Penty of City of York in 21:59 with Katie Clark of Kingston upon Hull second in 22:00 and Sarah Jarvis of Ilkley Harriers third in 22:12.

At 7.30am a team of ten Skyrac volunteers reported for action to set out the course. Over 2,000 markers were installed which created a small, medium and one lap cross- country course where four hours later over 800 runners were to participate. Officials from the Skyrac club had to re-route part of the course because of the waterlogged conditions in various areas.

Skyrac results: U-11s - 1, Tristan Fripp; 8, Henry Wood; 12, Thomas Clancy; 21, Lewis Turner; 25, Connor Greenwood; 26, Chris Child. Skyrac won second team prize.

U-17 men - 21, Michael Hinchcliffe; 27, Chris Whiteley; 28, Adam Brooks. Skjyrac won sixth team place.

Senior men - 52, Chris Bryan; 109, Frank Glass; 136, Jonathan Lester; 154, Bob Pritchard; 187, Malcolm Coles; 197, Peter Wade. The Skyrac men’s team placed 15th overall.

U-11 girls - 30, Chloe Hudson; 39, Molly Denton; 46, Harriet Whalley. The Skyrac came sixth.

U-13 girls - 15, Georgina Bentley; 18, Elizabeth Richings; 30, Rachel Turner; 31, Amelia Crump; 52, Roisin Clancy; 53, Sophie Robinson; 54, Amber Hudson. Skyrac were fourth team.

U-15 girls - 2, Jaye Riley; 8, Molly Keefe; 24, Kate Walsh; 31, Bethany Bloor; 36, Grace Goodall; 50, Clare Plawn. They were second team overall. U-17 women - 3, Rebecca Harrison; 11, Michelle Brolly; 13, Bethany Harrison; 28, Ellie English. Skyrac were first team overall.

Senior women - 79, Helen Wade; 93, Julia Turner; 105, Kate Parsonage..

Ilkley Harriers had 24 juniors competing and the U-11 boys results were - 11, Thomas Kerr; 20, Ruaridh Mon-Williams; 28, Gregory Smith.

Girls U-11s - 6, Naomi Brown; 7, Elizabeth Westhead; 9, Tassy Heslop giving Ilkley first team. 12, Rose Hagan; 16, Lucy Williamson; 20, Grace Malir giving Ilkley third team overall; 23, Laura King; 29, Chloe Slater; 35, Harriet Jackson giving Ilkley sixth team overall.

U-13 boys - 20, Joshua Stephens; 27, Harry Maslen; 35, Jack Cummings; 41, Henry Websdale; 49, Calum Carslaw; 50, Tom Bennett. Ilkley gained sixth place overall.

U-13 girls - 17, Naomi Elliott; 33, Georgia Malir; 34, Anna Tench; 48, Bea Bradley; 51, Hannah Heslop. The team finished seventh overall.

U-15 boys - 23, Sam Haggar.

Ilkley Harriers had 12 ladies and ten men competing and their teams put in some epic performances. The ladies were first team in the senior event totalling 54 points from second placed Leeds 94 and third placed Holmfirth’s 97.

They were 11th team overall.

Horsforth Harriers results: 176, Marc Springer 59:52.

After all the athletes and officials had left the course the Skyrac volunteers finished demarking the course and the day was deemed a success. Eleven hours after arriving at Nunroyd Park the team of volunteers finally went home.

The third race in the West Yorkshire Cross- Country League series will be held at Grange Park, Wetherby, on Saturday, November 15.

New venue for schools’ event There is a change in venue for the second Leeds Schools’ Cross-Country race on November 8. This will now be held at Middleton Park, Leeds, and not at Leeds Grammar School.

Ilkley Harriers Four Ilkley Harriers competed in the Withins Fell Race on Sunday with Jim Ryder 16th in 52.11; Ian Rowbotham 19th in 52.59; Malcolm Pickering 31st in 56.28 and Dave Tait first Vet 60 and 49th overall in 58.11.
