OLD Otliensians travelled to Cookridge to play the re-arranged game with Leeds Modernians, on a perfect day for rugby, expecting a tough encounter with old adversaries.

However, it did not turn out that way as Declan Jackson, playing at full back, raced through the Mods' defence in the first minute for a try converted by Jake Bentley.

'Ensians were at an advantage playing down the slope and needed a decent lead in the first half. They took control of the game with their speedy backs being provided by good ball from the forwards and scored a further five in the first half courtesy of winger Will Howarth (2), another by Declan Jackson, Jake Bentley and Jay Walsh. Four were successfully converted by Jake Bentley.

The only scores by Mods were two penalty goals in their infrequent visits to the visitor's territory, with the half time score set at 40-6.

After an early second half unconverted try by Kieron Walker, the home team had their best period of the game, spending a good 20 minutes in the visitor's half. They came near to scoring on numerous occasions, but the sound 'Ensians defence held firm.

However, after 23 minutes 'Ensians broke through with Harry Gillson scoring neat the posts, for Spencer Wood to convert.

'Mods were holding the visitors in the scrums, but the lineouts were controlled by Messrs Campbell, Featherstone and Walker. Although they never gave up, the hosts had no answer to the speed of the visitors' backs.

'Ensians scored three more tries by Eithan Heede and Will Howarth (2), two of which were converted by Spencer Wood, making a final score of 71-6, taking 'Ensians to the top of the league table.
