AIRECENTRE Pacers club captain Will Woodhead pulled off an amazing victory in the Canal Canter Ultra Marathon, crossing the line in four hours, 37 minutes and 10 seconds, a full half hour ahead of second placed athlete Ashleigh Grailey!
Woodhead’s commanding pace in the 32-mile event would have placed him in the top twenty runners in the regular marathon running along the same route.
He has had a good season so far in the ultra distances, taking bronze and silver in 32-mile events early in the year. The Canal Canter was his ninth marathon plus race of the year.
Will said after the race: “I think I’ve managed to improve consistently through the spring months and I really want to make a good impression in the Punk Panther High Life 105k next month.”
Andrew Humphries took the silver medal position at the Canal Canter 10k in 38 minutes and 10 seconds and partner Kate MacFarlane was 15th at the half marathon in one hour, 46 minutes and 54 seconds.
