Yarnbury 12 Heath 19

YARNBURY were within a minute of securing a draw against Yorkshire One's form team when the visitors struck a killer blow.

Heath captain Dom Walsh scored a last-minute try after Yarnbury failed to clear their lines. With Ezra Hinchcliffe tagging on the conversion, it meant Yarnbury only had a losing bonus point to show for their brave efforts.

But they later discovered that it was sufficient to lift them off the bottom of the tables as news filtered through of North Ribblesdale's 52-15 defeat at Bradford Salem.

Yarnbury, who had Kieran Davies back at stand off to pull the strings also benefitted from the strong presence of

James Falgate and Ian Maycock in the second row.

Heath opted for a kicking game in the early stages while Yarnbury chose to run the ball in a bid to move the large visiting pack around the park.

Yarnbury’s young full back Will Marshall was proving a handful with his pace and footwork while skipper Jason Avison was stopped just five metres short of the line after a good break.

All Yarnbury had as reward for their enterprise was a solitary penalty from Davies, whose kicking enabled his side to clear their lines.

There was a touch of good fortune to the first try. Heath winger Jordan Bradbrook won the race to touchdown after a kick and chase squirmed out of a defender's grasp. Yarnbury felt their might have been a double movement but the referee ruled that the try was good.

Davies restored Yarnbury's lead with two further penalties following infringements on the ground by the Heath forwards under sustained pressure from Yarnbury.

The game was attritional for the third quarter with both sides making mistakes with their passing under the pressure of trying to force tries.

Heath edged ahead for the second time with a try from winger Lewis Saltonstall which Hinchcliffe converted.

Yarnbury hit back and levelled the scores with a long-range Davies penalty before Heath snatched victory in the fin al minute.
