Selby 32 Yarnbury 45

THE growing confidence of Yarnbury's young side was rewarded as they secured a deserved Yorkshire One away win.

The hard work of coaches Bob Hood and Gary Walker, along with the calming experience of captain Jason Avison, is reaping rewards.

Yarnbury made a horrendous start when they failed to gather the kick off from the returning full back for Josh Cruise after his sojourn at Otley in the national leagues. Back row Sam Broughton took advantage of the indecision to score a try which Cruise converted.

Yarnbury immediately went back up the field but stand off Danny Pound missed a close in penalty only for Selby to break out for centre Will Jefferson to score a second try.

Pound kicked two penalties to open Yarnbury's account but good breaks by second row James Falgate and wing forward Lewis Wray petered out through a lack of support despite Selby being reduced to 13 men.

Yarnbury then fell for a sucker punch just before half-time when they lost their own scrum and Selby moved the ball down the left at pace for winger Alex Hare to score an unconverted try.

The Horsforth side were stunned but hit back with an opportunist's try from Danny Pound just before the break.

The second half was open with the lead changing hands as both sides fought for control and the big crowd were getting more fractious.

Selby started the second half as they did the first winger Alex Hare scoring to extend their lead before Yarnbury's backs cut through the line for in-form centre Connor Moreton to score a try which was converted by Pound.

A brace of tries for the substitute second row Ian Maycock sandwiched a penalty by Cruise as Yarnbury went ahead.

A George Stocker try converted by Cruise regained the lead for the home side to regain the lead.

The pace of the Yarnbury youngsters was beginning to tell as Selby tired and tries for wings Alex Clark and Jack Brown, both converted by Will Marshall were a deserved reward.

Pound cashed in with a late drop goal to put the seal on the win.
