Guiseley 0 Barnsley 2
MARK Bower’s Lions had another tough pre-season game as they lost at home to new Championship outfit Barnsley, last night
The Tykes netted a goal in each half to claim a narrow but hard earned victory at Nethermoor just three days after Guiseley had held nearest Football League neighbours Bradford City to a 1-1 draw.
Guiseley had a good chance to open the scoring but close season signing Michael Rankine’s strike from outside the area was just wide.
Javan Vidal created an opening for himself shortly after skipping past four defenders but then scuffed his effort.
The Tykes went ahead when James Carvell volleyed home Adam Hammill's cross at the far post for the opener after 22 minutes.
Barnsley doubled their lead seven minutes into the second half as half-time replacements Kayden Jackson and Stefan Payne combined with the latter, the former Dover player, blasting home from the edge of the box.
Jackson almost made it 3-0 late on with two fine efforts but found Guiseley's trialist goalkeeper in fine form late on.
The Lions next game is away at Hyde on Tuesday (7.45) before entertaining Leeds United at Nethermoor on Friday (7:45).
