Yarnbury Hornets 17 Old Brodleians 21

WHEN Old Brodleians pitch was declared unfit at midday the Yorkshire Merit Table match was quickly switched to The Leeds Trinity ground.

The long grass gave a soft playing surface and Yarnbury took the lead early on with a try by right winger Stuart Wilson.

He squeezed in on the right hand side after good scrum ball and fast hands from the backs put him into space. Stand off Danny Pound added the conversion.

Brodleians were soon back in the game with a penalty for offside at a maul through stand off Zach Thompson.

The Yarnbury back row were outstanding in the tackle area with No 8 Tom Fox as dependable as ever and open side Kieran Lines, on his return to Horsforth, making a big impact.

Centres Jack Brown and Tom Barnes were a solid partnership in the middle of the field

For the remainder of the half Yarnbury had to do plenty of defending as their opponents raised their game.

The second half saw George Oldridge move up to stand off and Pound rested. Both sides were attacking and looking for the win but Brodleians were the first to score in the final quarter with full back Matthew Doyle scoring on the overlap.

Ellis Gomersall came on for a run out after missing the first team game last week due to paternal leave and was too hot for the opposition. He scored an unconverted try to regain the lead for the Hornets and then pinched a ball out of the air to score his second from an Oldridge punt to the line.

Thompson kicked a penalty for Brodleians before Samoan Manu Tusigu showed his strength and pace to score an unconverted try.

Further pressure saw winger Jasper Airly scoring in an entertaining and tight league fixture.
