Wyke Wanderers 0 Pool 4

POOL continued their recent run of good form in the West Yorkshire League Premier Division with an emphatic away triumph.

They dominated the first half, but were unable to turn their pressure into goals.

Their concerns that missed chances might come back to haunt them were soon put to bed as early in the second half they effectively sealed victory with three goals.

The first had an element of good fortune as Neil Ebdon's excellent corner was chested home by a Wyke defender.

Wyke then raised their game and could consider themselves unfortunate as a penalty claim was turned down.

Pool continued to show their desire to win. They were sound in defence and determined in midfield. A rare foray forward by Temilada Ajimoko resulted in his cross falling to Ebdon who turned from provider into finisher in dramatic style. His powerful long-range shot gave the Wyke keeper no chance.

A superb left-foot drive from Tom Flemming put Pool 3-0 up and clear, however Wyke were not to give up as they produced several chances when better finishing might have borne fruit.

The Pool defence along with Michael Tosney in goal held firm, so when Steve Preston scored from close range, it was no more than the performance deserved.

Pool now have a break from league football as the West Yorkshire League representative match this week has led to all Premier Division matches being postponed. The County Challenge Cup starts the following week with Pool having a trip to Mount Pleasant.
