Old Otliensians 47 Aireborough 15

OTLIENSIANS launched their new campaign with a comfortable victory over their local rivals at Chaffers Field.

They ran in seven tries which will put them in good heart for Saturday’s tricky away test at Bramley Phoenix.

The speedy home backs quickly made their mark as Connor Bateman and Chris Westland ran in earlky tries to establish a 10-0 lead.

Aireborough opened their account with a penalty before Bateman landed penalties either side of a fine try from winger Will Howarth as Otliensians went 21-3 up at the break.

Good pressure at the start of the second half was rewarded with a brace of tries by centre Luke Cowdell with Kristian Keinhorst adding one conversion.

A converted try for Aireborough was followed by a try from Ali Fothergill which Keinhorst again converted.

Otliensians were punished for easing up when Aireborough scored another try, but they had the last laugh when the impressive Westland scored his second try. Keinhorst’s conversion sealed the win/

Young Keiron Walker had an outstanding game in the second row. His work-rate and tackling caught the eye.
