Otley Town 1 Thornhill 0

OTLEY Town made it through to the next round of the West Yorkshire League Cup, but they made hard work of their victory over Thornhill, who are flying high in Division One of the West Yorkshire League.

Town should have been four goals up within 20 minutes, but a combination of excellent goalkeeping and poor finishing kept the scoresheet blank.

The away side then grew in confidence, and set about making the match more of a scrap. Town’s early dominance waned and half-time was reached with no score.

The second half saw Otley again on top, and they finally breached the Thornhill defence when top scorer Toby Harris fired home from close range.

Further goals were threatened but not produced by Town, and this lack of a clinical streak must be a concern to manager Dave Morris, as will their poor game management from such a position of early superiority that it looked like a cricket score might be in the offing.

Town are back in league action this coming Saturday with an away game against Beeston St Anthony’s (2.30pm).
