Pool 2 Altofts 0

POOL will have to sharpen up their finishing if they are to realise their ambition of winning promotion this season.

This latest win pushed them into third place with games in hand on Carlton Athletic and Thornhill.

This was an opportunity to boost their goal difference. Pool dominated the match but couldn't turn their superiority into goals.

Their supporters are probably still wondering how the game got to half-time goalless.

Matthew White did find the net, but was judged to be offside despite there being a defender on the goalline.

The deadlock-breaking goal was well worth waiting for. A fine run down the left from Neil Ebdon culminated in a low cross which the diving Nick Hewitt headed home.

Altofts were an occasional threat on the break, but resolute defending snuffed out any real chances apart from one powerful left-foot shot saved well by Andy Caine.

Pool sealed the three points when Tom Flemming placed his shot perfectly around the Altofts keeper.
