Old Modernians 2 Otley Town 3 A COMFORTABLE afternoon for Otley Town was spoiled by the concession of two late goals which made the final minutes more nerve-racking than they should have been, but ultimately they made it through in this League Cup tie.

Town were the better side in the first period and deservedly went ahead when Toby Harris pounced on a fortuitous deflection to round the goalkeeper and stroke the ball home.

They were though indebted to a fine save from their own stopper, Chris Brodie, on the stroke of half-time that prevented an equaliser.

When Harris scored again early in the second-half, Town were in control of the match, and nothing more of note happened until a late challenge on Joe Currie ignited a feud which continued when the game re-started and Josh Waite was clattered from behind.

The referee correctly brandished a red card, and the home side’s misfortunes increased when an own goal put Town three goals to the good.

From here it should have been a cruise for Otley, but Old Mods galvanised themselves, and pulled a goal back with a header from a corner by James Lee to reduce the arrears.

When a second goal from Ben Turner followed shortly afterwards, suddenly Town had their backs to the wall and were glad when the final whistle blew to put them through to the next round.

This Saturday sees Town back in league action, with a home game against Shelley (kick off is 2pm).
