Selby 23 Yarnbury 11

YARNBURY have won their two home matches since winning promotion but victory on their travels still eludes them.

The Horsforth side were without influential players Ellis Gomersall, James Barrett and Jimmy Cryan as they were forced to make six changes.

They also had Stephen Riley coming in for his first start along with debutant Jack Myerscough.

Despite the changes, Yarnbury

had several promising attacks but their progress was hindered by the concession of a number of penalties which led to them being driven back into their own half by full back Cody Whitaker.

From the first real Selby attack a slick switch move saw centre Alex Webster crash over for a try which Whitaker converted.

Things then got worse for the away side with a sin binning for back row forward Andy Van Heel for a late tackle and Selby increased their lead through a Whitaker penalty.

Yarnbury were further disrupted by a further sin binning for prop Adam Pike for a clumsy challenge.

Whitaker converted a further penalty to make the half time score 13-0.

Indiscipline isn't normally a problem for the Horsforth side but it was proving costly on this occasion.

Yarnbury started the second half brightly with forwards Van Heel and Joe Bennett leading their attacking efforts.

However, they only had two penalties from stand off Carl Paterson to show for their efforts before Selby prop Duncan Hardy went over for a try in the corner.

Yarnbury managed to break out and good handling from the backs put Jason Avieson away.

He handed on to former Chester centre Myerscough who rounded two defenders to score out wide.

Unfortunately all the good work was undone with a bizarre score to finish for Selby in the right hand corner.

Yet another penalty kick for the corner was going dead in goal and should have been touched down but was kicked out by full back Benton who failed to find touch.

The Selby forwards were ruthless in their charge for the line. Sam Neil touched down to send Yarnbury home pointless in a match where they should have got some reward.
