Vauxhall Motors 2 Guiseley 0

Guiseley suffered another blow in their pursuit of Blue Square Bet North leaders Chester FC when they meekly succumbed at mid-table Vauxhall Motors.

The hosts were in form but ten places below the second-placed Lions, who turned in their worst display of the season.

They failed to trouble the home keeper with even one attempt on his goal.

To make matters worse they were forced to play the last quarter-hour with nine men following two injuries after boss Steve Kittrick had used his three substitutes.

That leaves Kevin Hols-grove (knee) and Aaron Hardy (ankle) doubtful for Tuesday's home clash with Colwyn Bay.

With Guiseley unable to land even a glancing blow on their opponents, the goalless first half was a dour affair.

The Motormen broke the deadlock ten minutes after the interval when a punch out from Lions keeper Steve Drench was returned with interest, Chris Noone firing it right into the top corner.

Kittrick, who had been forced to replace centre back Andy Pearson with Mark Bower after just half an hour, had seen enough and threw his other two subs on – one of which was Holsgrove.

When Drench dropped the ball from a corner kick and Obi Anurou slotted in from point-blank range to make it 2-0, the contest was over. Guiseley lost their two men to injury soon after and there was no way back.

Kittrick said: “We had to try to change it with the people we had on the bench so I have no regrets about using all the substitutes. It was just one of those things but it was all over before we went down to nine men to be honest.

“Fair play to Vauxhall because they have done a job on us. We haven’t played well and if we are serious about winning this league, and we still can do, we have got to change our mentality and I said that to the players in the dressing room after the game.”

It was Guiseley’s second setback in days after being held to a draw at Gloucester City last Tuesday.

* FC Halifax Town striker Gareth Seddon scored a hat-trick as Droylsden were thumped 6-0 at home.

Alex Titchiner, Dan Gardner and Jon Worthing-ton also found the net as the Shaymen claimed a valuable three points.

Town dominated from start to finish and raced into a three-goal lead before
half-time. Three more followed after the break as Town moved up to seventh spot.
