“THE best show ever,” said Show President Sue Rix as she introduced the trophy winners at the 42nd Menston Village Show.
She thanked the crowds for attending the show, held in the Kirklands Community Centre on Saturday, September 9, before going on the thanks the entrants who had earlier braved appalling weather to bring their entries, the hardworking committee, and town cryer Elisa Mowe who returned to the show to present the trophies.
Also acknowledged were the many local business which had donated prizes and the two main sponsors, Ribston Pippin estate agents and Pickard's Pies, who produce a range of 'luxury' pork pies in the village.
Striking features of this year's show were the abundance of wonderful flower displays and flower arrangements but, even more remarkable, the creativity and practical abilities of local youngsters. Baking, models, needlework, art, sculpture, complex Lego constructions, odd creations with fruit and vegetables, floating flowers - all demonstrated an extraordinary ability.
A painting from Krizzler Cree was awarded 'best in show', and so the Barbara Hannam Trophy, for a young person's entry. Best in show for the adults went to Brian Parker while the Fawcett Trophy for the overall winner, with most points over all classes, went to Julie Wilks.
