FARNLEY Estate took top honours at the Yorkshire Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (YFYFC) county rally.
The event was held by kind permission of Thirsk Farmers’ Auction Mart and saw clubs from the length and breadth Yorkshire battle it out in everything from traditional competitions such as stock judging through to more novelty events like limbo and the YFC’s very own version of the television programme I’m a Celebrity’s infamous Bushtucker Trial.
Second place club honours went to Penistone, with Reeth taking third.
Cledales, an area which covers from Thirsk up to Northallerton and across to Reeth and Aysgarth, was the district with the most overall points.
After the prizegiving the annual ‘rally do’ was held, with the young farmers swapping their work boots for dancing shoes.
Kelly Armitage, county administrator for the YFYFC, said the judges had been bowled over by the standard of the entries.
“We had a really brilliant day and we can’t begin to thank all the judges, stewards and Thirsk Mart enough,” said Kelly, who added that there “really is something for everybody to enter” at a modern-day young farmers’ rally.
