ILKLEY Film Festival returns in May with a day of programming headlined by Sony Award-winning Adam Buxton.

It follows a record-breaking second festival in February that attracted almost 5,000 people to 26 events across three venues in Ilkley.

As the clock strikes noon on Sunday, May 24, Ilkley Film Festival will kick off the day-long event with Disney’s blockbuster fairytale Cinderella, directed by critically acclaimed Sir Kenneth Branagh (Thor) and featuring rising star Lilly James, best known for her role in ITV’s hit period drama Downton Abbey.

Also starring Cate Blanchett and Helena Bonham-Carter, this screening will weave its magic wand and thrill audiences at the historic King’s Hall.

Flying the British flag is A Royal Night Out, screening at 3pm.

It tells the story of young princesses Elizabeth and Margaret as they discover romance and celebrate peace on VE Day in 1945.

With a British cast starring Rupert Everett as King George and Emily Watson as Queen Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother), this screening brings the highly anticipated film to Ilkley audiences, just one week after its national release.

Closing the day at 8pm is former BBC Radio 6 host Adam “Dr Buckles” Buxton, returning to Yorkshire for the first time in nearly five years with a brand new live screening of his show BUG. First commissioned by the BFI Southbank in 2007, BUG sees Buxton explore the evolution of online music videos, offering his own personal take alongside YouTube users’ infamous commentaries. A regular sell-out in both London and on tour, tickets for BUG with Adam Buxton Live are now available.

Demonstrating a big show of confidence in the fledgling festival, Leeds-based law firm Ison Harrison has confirmed its renewal headline sponsorship, ahead of preparations for the third festival, which will take place in 2016.

Ilkley Film Festival has a year-round programme of events with other dates confirmed as September 26 and November 29, with more to follow shortly.

The main 2016 festival is confirmed to take place between February 17-21.

Tickets for the May screenings are now on sale – they are available from the Ilkley Visitor Information Centre by telephone on 01943 6023119 and also online over at ilkleyfilmfestival.co.uk
