Menston students enjoyed an evening of celebrations marking their achievements in their A- Level qualifications.

MP Stuart Andrew, who represents Aireborough and Horsforth, attended the annual A Level presentation evening along with parents and staff at St Mary’s School.

The school recorded its best ever results with an average points score of 380 per student, which is equivalent to three A grades, putting the school in the top 50 non-selective schools in the country.

Students returned to receive not only their A-level certificates but also special individual subject and community awards.

Many students gained individual prizes, including Jasper McGilvray who gained an award in art, and Dominic Celica in law.

Special prizes were also awarded, one of which included an accolade for an outstanding achievement in maths, which was awarded to William Byrne.

Music on the evening was provided by students James Sutherland, Liam Brigg and Lauren Whiteley.

Head Robert Pritchard said: “Events such as this provide the opportunity to thank the school community – parents, students, staff and governors for the contribution they make to St Mary’s. I was delighted to see so many students recognised for their splendid achievements spanning a wide range of school life.”
