The opening of new routes from Leeds Bradford airport could bring hundreds of new jobs to Yorkshire.

The area could benefit from extra routes and a significant financial spin-off after the airline Flybe announced the purchase of 35 Embraer E175 aircraft.

The deal could also lead to the purchase of a further 105 Embraer planes.

Following the announcement Flybe’s chief commercial officer, Mike Rutter, said the purchase could lead to more routes from Leeds Bradford to key business destinations in Europe.

This in turn could bring as many as 300 extra jobs to Yorkshire.

It will not be known for about six months whether LBIA will benefit from the E175 deal but Mr Rutter has said Leeds is one of the places the airline favours for expansion.

Its existing destinations from Leeds Bradford include Amsterdam, Belfast, Brussels, Jersey, London Gatwick, Nice and Southampton.

Possible additions could include Hanover, Copenhagen and Stockholm.
