OTLEY 2030 is inviting members of the local community to have their input on what they think should happen at the East of Otley site, with an event at Otley Courthouse this Sunday (October 23).

The drop in event, open to everyone, will be a series of stalls for people to peruse at their leisure and ask questions of volunteers. There will also be a short survey that attendees can complete.

In March of this year, Otley 2030, along with other key stakeholders from the town, were invited to a meeting with representatives of Leeds City Council and the rest of the East of Otley Consortium. Attendees were told that the consortium planned to have a public consultation in the summer, with a view to resubmitting a revised application for the site later in the year. Summer has obviously been and gone now and the community have heard very little from the consortium.

Otley 2030 have heard a number of rumours as to why this might be the case, but regardless of these, they believe the lull is good for the Otley community.

As Community Development Lead, Andrew Howarth says: “It gives the community time to organise and to come up with a plan for what the people of the town really want from the site. The delay is also beneficial, because the Future Homes Standard comes into force in 2025 and will require CO2 emissions produced by new homes to be 75-80 per cent lower than those built to current standards. The Leeds Local Plan update should also be in place by then.”

The community climate action group also hopes that the government introduces further legislation on sustainability in the coming years.

Otley 2030 is planning that the event on Sunday will have stalls including details on the following:

• Otley 2030’s Exemplar Development

• Sustainable design proposals from the University of Leeds Sustainable Cities Masters students

• A timeline of the site so far developed by the ODD Campaign

• Independent assessment reports commissioned by the East of Otley Action group

• Update from Friends of Wharfedale Greenway

• Opportunities to find out how you could get more involved

There is no need to book, just turn up at the Courthouse anytime between 1pm-3pm on Sunday, October 23rd. Any questions, email hello@otley2030.com
