A 61-YEAR-old man has appeared in court to be sentenced for assaulting a woman by beating.

Paul Hammond, 61, who gave his address as care of St Anne's Community Services, St Mark's Avenue, Woodhouse, Leeds, appeared before Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court on May 9, 2022.

He had previously pleaded not guilty but was found guilty after a trial. The assault of a woman by beating occurred on December 12, 2020 at a park off Main Street, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Ilkley.

A community order made by the court. The defendant must carry out unpaid work for 100 hours within the next 12 months. This work will be supervised by a responsible officer.

He was also ordered to pay compensation of £100, pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £95 and costs of £215 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Hammond, whose address had previously been given to the court as The Old School, Amy Busfield Green, Burley-in-Wharfedale, pleaded guilty to failing to surrender to police/court bail at the appointed time after failing to appear at Kirklees Magistrates' Court on March 3, 2022, having been released on bail in criminal proceedings on October 11, 2021 at Leeds Magistrates' Court.
