ILKLEY Grammar School’s students have once again recorded great successes with this year’s A Level results, continuing to achieve above average outcomes at every level, despite another tranche of the new style ‘harder’ A Level examinations this summer.

Eleven per cent of all grades achieved were at A* (three per cent above national), with all other attainment measures also continuing to be above national rates, including almost a third of all grades achieved at A/A* (31 per cent), with 60 per cent at A*-B and a 98 per cent overall pass rate.

As always there were some stand out achievements from a number of students, including Jessica Toseland who achieved 4A*s, Hannah Richards who achieved 3 A*s and an A, Harriet Day with 3A*s, Eleanor Griffiths, Melissa Johns-Watson and Nea Weston who all achieved 2A*s and 2As and Katrin Blears, Annie Edwards, Sam Ford, Joanna Henney, Ben Thompson and Jo Williams who all achieved 2A*s plus an A.

Around three quarters of IGS students now move on to a range of university destinations including Oxbridge and music conservatoire, with an impressive 80 per cent (102 students) gaining places at their first choice universities today, with all other students moving into employment or taking a gap year in 2018-19.

Helen Williams, Headteacher said: “It’s been yet another fantastic results day at IGS, where we are privileged to share in and celebrate the achievements of all of our students as they move on to their university or career path of choice or take a gap year. "We are extremely proud of the class of 2018 and I’d like to thank all of the staff at IGS who have worked so hard over the last two years to support our students to gain these high levels of success once again. Well done to everyone!”
