HUNDREDS of festivalgoers rocked out to local bands at Ghyll Royd School last month.

Pupils, parents and members of the local community visited Ghyllstonbury festival on the grounds of Greystone Manor in Burley-in-Wharfedale.

The local prep school went all out with fabulous festival décor, groovy face paint and three large teepee tents supplied by BarEventsUK.

The event had a fully stocked bar featuring beers from Wharfedale Brewery and a barbecue managed by Ghyll Royd’s chef Sean Morgan.

Ilkley ward Councillor Anne Hawkesworth (Ind, Ilkley) was in attendance to officially open the event in her best festival attire.

Guests wore wellies, plaid shirts and denim shorts to get into the festival spirit with one group arriving in masks of the Royal Family to celebrate the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle!

Crowds gathered around the stage to dance to a brilliant line-up featuring Ghyll Royd’s own Maddie Holland, rock band Taller Than Paul and the wonderful Frigga Ceilidh Band who performed at the event before their Ireland tour. Major Laff entertained the younger guests with his enchanting magic act.

Over £2,500 was raised through tickets, food and drink sales which will go towards Ghyll Royd’s ‘Theatre of Dreams’ – a retractable tiered seating fund which aims to improve the viewer’s experiences of performances and events.

Headteacher David Martin said: “We hope everyone enjoyed this fun, family-friendly event. The sun shone down on Greystone Manor, creating the perfect festival atmosphere for everyone to enjoy. Thank you to Councillor Anne Hawkesworth who joined us to cut the ceremonial ribbon; to Ghyll Royd staff for all your help on the day; to BarEventsUK for allowing us to use the fantastic, spacious teepees; to Ghyll Royd parent Paula McKie for offering her time and expertise to help plan and organise such a brilliant day; to the many acts who entertained the crowds and to all our guests for your support.”
