A MOVIE and a 'bring and share' lunch will be held in Otley next month to mark International Women's Day.

Both events have been organised by Otley Women Together as a way of commemorating the global movement for women's rights.

The first will be a screening of Made in Dagenham at Otley Courthouse on Monday, March 5.

The film is a dramatization of the 1968 strike at the Ford Dagenham car plant, where female workers walked out in protest against sexual discrimination.

Starring Sally Hawkins, Bob Hoskins and Andrea Riseborough it will be shown at 7.30pm and be followed by a discussion about women, work and trade unionism in 2018.

The Bring and Share Lunch, meanwhile, takes place at Otley Labour Rooms on Thursday, March 8 - International Women’s Day - from noon to 2pm.

It will feature a talk on Women and Sport in 2018 by Emeritus Professor at Leeds Beckett University, Sheila Scraton.

She said: "I will share some of my thoughts on the progress that has been made in women's sport both in the media and in elite sport, but also argue that we have a long way still to go, particularly in our schools and communities.

"I will also share why I remain committed to 'pressing for progress' in this area and why I consider women and sport an important feminist issue."

Both events are free but donations towards the cost of future International Women’s Day activities will be welcomed.

Places for the lunch are limited so should be reserved by contacting Judith Wilson at judith.wilson1953@gmail.com, with the subject 'IWD lunch'.

Baked potatoes, tea and coffee will be provided, but guests are asked to bring a food contribution to go with the potatoes.
