MESSAGES of support from across the country are on display at an Otley barbers shop.

Grade 1, on Boroughgate, has covered its front window with heart shaped notes expressing solidarity with everyone affected by the recent terrorist atrocities in London and Manchester.

The hearts, which came to the business through a Facebook appeal, have been sent from communities across the north, including South Yorkshire and Lancashire, and from as far afield as Bristol.

Otley mother-of-two Wendy Fawell was one of 22 people killed in the Manchester Arena bombing on May 22. Her funeral service was held at Rawdon Crematorium on Wednesday, June 14.

Grade 1 owner Michelle Hutchinson said: "I entered this year's Otley Carnival window display competition and chose to represent and share the love and affections of people who donated hearts to me, through a Facebook appeal, from all over the country.

"The hearts show love and support for all the people affected by the recent terrorism in London and Manchester.

"Having sadly lost a resident of Otley at the Manchester Arena I decided that this gesture, using my window, was a lovely way for people to show their love and thoughts.

"These hearts are free to anyone who would like to take one and we have a donation box for the UK Solidarity Fund, which helps victims of terrorism in the UK."
