OTLEY and Yeadon Labour Party members have taken part in a mass pro-NHS march in Leeds.

The group joined a 3,000-strong crowd which included health workers and trade unionists from around the country for the Saturday, April 1 event.

The demonstrators called on the Government to increase NHS funding and end cuts, closures, treatment 'rationing' and moves towards greater privatisation.

A choir helped the march get underway, leading a chorus of 'The NHS belongs to us, we won’t let it go', and the Public and Commercial Services Union samba band led the procession through the city centre.

Leeds Keep Our NHS Public, which organised the march under the umbrella of Health Campaigns Together, said afterwards that it was determined to work with others to challenge what it called the Government's 'dismantling' of the health service.
