A MEGA Banana Breakdance has brought an Otley school's Fairtrade Fortnight fun to a rousing conclusion.

Children at All Saints C of E Primary enjoyed a number of events focused on the theme of this year's campaign - It's Time to put Fairtrade in your Break!

They included a whole-school assembly led by Year 6 pupils who explored how making just a small change in their shopping choices for snacks could help people in other parts of the world.

The Fairtrade activities ended last week with a giant Mega Banana Breakdance in the school grounds led by Steve Johnson from Dance Action Zone, in Leeds.

Year 6 Higher Level Teaching Assistant Linda Kelly said: "We had a great day last Friday learning and performing our Fairtrade breakdance routine.

"Every class had a breakdance lesson during the day to learn a banana routine and at the end the whole school met on the playground to perform the dance together.

"There were more than 200 people dancing at the same time in glorious sunshine!

"We had then earned our break-time snack - Fairtrade bananas for every child, which had been very kindly donated by Sainsbury’s supermarket in Otley."

She added: "Each year our activities during Fairtrade Fortnight are aimed at raising awareness of Fairtrade issues and how we can all make a difference to people’s lives all over the world by making just a small change in the way we shop.

"Our children are now very familiar with the Fairtrade logo and have a good understanding of what it means."
