A COUPLE braved gale force winds and high waves to run 42 miles along a coastal path in aid of a heart charity.

Alison and Neil Bloor pitted themselves against the elements in memory of Alison's brother Peter who died at the age of 50 last year. Their efforts have raised thousands of pounds for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

The couple, from Menston, took part in the Run to the Castle Ultra Marathon which goes from Aberdovey to Harlech.

They said: "Gale Force winds and high seas made the going difficult from the start. After this it was a constant battle against the wind with some steep hills in the first half and regular heavy showers. The second half is a lot flatter however the whole way required some good map reading."

The Bloors finished 36th and 37th out of a field of 90 runners - only around half the normal number of participants due to the atrocious conditions. Alison and Neil are now planning more fundraising events later this year.
