WACKY wigs were the order of the day when children supported a cancer charity's campaign.

Pupils at Yeadon Westfield Junior School made their own creations for a special assembly, raising £144 for CLIC Sargent.

Curriculum co-ordinator and class teacher, Mary Jaciuch, said they had enjoyed a great time celebrating Wig Wednesday.

"The pupils made and wore their wigs for a special celebration assembly led by our school council," she added.

The Yeadon pupils were among thousands of people across the UK wearing wacky wigs to school, college or work, on May 25, and making a donation to support children and young people with cancer.

Pupils also gave a pound for the chance to nominate their favourite teachers to wear a wig for the day.

Lindsay Kay, CLIC Sargent fundraising manager for Yorkshire area, said: "CLIC Sargent is there to support children and young people with cancer, as well as their families, every step of the way.

"But we can’t do it without the support of our brilliant fundraisers."

CLIC Sargent provides practical, emotional, clinical, and financial support – from diagnosis onwards – for children and young people with cancer and their families across the UK.
