A RUGBY League fan from Otley has enjoyed a meal with one of her sporting heroes after winning a competition.
Sally Lawn tucked into fish and chips with Leeds Rhinos captain Danny Maguire and his family at the Guiseley branch of the Wetherby Whaler.
Sally took along her husband, Mike, and rugby-mad brother and nephew, Simon and William Hepworth respectively, to share the experience.
She said: "I was over the moon to find out I had won the competition on the Wetherby Whaler's website.
"I don’t get to go to as many Rhinos games as I would like, but whenever I do, I’m always impressed by the family atmosphere and the players’ attitude towards fans. They’re always willing to spare a few minutes to take photos and sign autographs, which is something you don’t see in every sport and means a lot to the fans.
"My brother and nephew are huge fans and hardly ever miss a game, so when I invited them along they were absolutely thrilled. It’s something we’ll all remember and talk about for a long time.
"It was lovely to meet Danny and his family. Not many other professional sports players would be prepared to sit down with fans for a meal and a chat, but Danny is really down to earth."
Phillip Murphy, who co-owns the Wetherby Whaler Group with his wife, Janine, added: "We’re pleased to be able to organise this competition, thanks to our ongoing partnership with the Leeds Rhinos."
