THE bellman of Otley Terry Ford joined hundreds of brass bands, choirs, singer songwriters and children during a national music day held in City Park in Bradford on Friday, June 5.

Organised by the BBC and supported by Bradford Council's Music and Arts Service, Music Day was held at numerous venues across the country and Bradford was the only place in Yorkshire that was taking part.

City Park was the scene for most of the events with hundreds of schoolchildren taking to the stage for a mass sing along and a "body percussion" session.

The acts playing highlighted the diversity of the district's music scene. The Bradford Festival Choral Society was one of the groups performing, along with guitar groups from Ilkley and Bradford who serenaded the crowds.

Terry is what others might call a town crier, with a similar task to keep the town of Otley up to day with news, mainly about special events taking place. He has been in the job for around four years.
