MORE than 100 people turned out to help raise the Chevin Cross last weekend.
The 30ft-tall symbol was pulled into position at Surprise View, overlooking Otley, on Saturday morning.
Otley Methodist Church secretary John Burland said he was delighted with the record turnout.
A dramatic part of the local landscape each Easter since 1968, the current cross is made from timber that was salvaged from the IRA bombed Arndale Centre, in Manchester.
The landmark usually stands for four weeks but this year will remain in place for ten, until Pentecost – seven weeks after Easter Sunday – to link up with a street prayer initiative in Otley.
