National food award for Horsforth Farmers' Market
8:00am Tuesday 4th February 2014 in News
A farmers’ market which was set up just over a year ago has been commended in a national food award.
Horsforth Farmers’ Market was picked out for the honour in the Market Category of the Farm Shop & Deli Awards from nearly 300 entries across the country. Thousands of public votes were cast in the awards.
The market’s secretary, Graham Fergusson, said: “We have been running for just over a year now and are thrilled with the market’s popularity and the lovely community atmosphere it generates.”
The awards, in partnership with Olives Et Al, recognise the best standards in speciality retail and celebrate the highest levels of service, product knowledge, initiative, innovation and community involvement. Judge Neil Nugent, executive chef and head of product development at Morrisons said: “The awards are a brilliant opportunity for the UK’s small independent businesses like Horsforth Farmers’ Market to get recognition nationally and enable them to become a destination.”
The market takes place from 9am to 12.30pm on the first Saturday of each month at St Margaret’s school car park. The event this weekend will include a free bouncy castle.
