Leeds Bradford Airport to get new scanners for passengers
9:00am Wednesday 4th December 2013 in News
Leeds-Bradford Airport is set to have extra passenger scanners installed, as new security technology to prevent terrorism attacks is extended to include more UK airports.
Ten airports already use the scanners, designed to detect improvised explosive devices, and a further 11, including Leeds-Bradford, will be added next year.
The development was announced last week by Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin, who said: “The overwhelming evidence from airports is that nearly all passengers accept the use of security scanners and find the process quick and convenient.
“These improvised devices were designed to make detection by existing screening methods extremely difficult. More broadly, the UK terror threat level remains at substantial, an attack is a strong possibility.”
The scanners will be installed from next autumn.
