Ilkley musician Alexandra Keeley, who has won a place at the Yehudi Menuhin School, had a wonderful day last Wednesday.

The nine-year-old Westville House pupil played to a couple of hundred children at the Peel Hall at Salford University in the morning. This was in aid of the Slyvia Swiffen Trust whose aim is to inspire, encourage and sponsor children, who would not have the opportunity, to take up musical instruments.

After this she was shown a portrait that has been painted of her playing the violin by artist Marshall Rubin. It is hoped the portrait will be exhibited at the Royal Academy of Portrait Artists on the Mall. After this, the painting will be sold with all the proceeds going to the trust.
