As a trustee of Wharfedale Special Medical Equipment Fund, I would like to express my appreciation for your article in the issue of March 1 which recorded the presentation of a scanner to the radiology unit at Otley Hospital in memory of the late Dr Waters.
I would like to make one thing clear and thank Wharfedale and District. Thanks to them, over the years the fund has been able to donate well over double the figure of £200,000 mentioned in your article. From the initial purchase of a radio lesion generator in 1980 to the present bone scanner acquisition, the public has shown unfailing generosity by making donations, contributing to public house piles of pennies, running innumerable miles, organising dances and whist drives, and in many other ways showing how much they appreciate their local hospital. It would be wrong to allow the extent of that generosity to remain unrecorded.
