SOME of the country's finest practitioners of traditional Irish music will join forces for a special concert at Otley Courthouse this month.

Dr Lovegun and the Groove Hoovers is a musical collective consisting of musicians from various London-based bands including The Long Notes, The London Lasses and Cross Harbour.

Cross Harbour played at the Courthouse back in 2014 and two of its key members, fiddle player Sam Proctor and bouzouki expert Tad Sargent, will be part of the Groove team when they perform on Sunday, November 20.

Sam is also a solo artist whose debut album was chosen by the Irish Times as one of the traditional recordings of 2008, while Tad is an in-demand session musician.

Both musicians were also featured in the film Burke and Hare and Tad will be appearing at the Courthouse straight after being involved in the latest Globe Theatre production of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew.

Joining the pair on stage will be acclaimed banjo and mandolin player Brian Kelly who, as well as playing in The Long Notes and being a respected solo musician, was once a member of Shane MacGowan’s band The Popes.

Another former member of The Popes joining Dr Lovegun will be Ben Gunnery, who graduated with a first class degree in Classical Violin performance from the Royal College of Music and Trinity College of Music.

Ben has toured with a string of bands and shows including Barrage, Riverdance, Gaelforce, and Celtic Legends.

Other musicians taking part on the night include Chris O’Malley from London Lasses - and there will also be a few surprises with the Courthouse promising "a very exciting night of Irish music".

The show starts at 8pm and tickets cost £10.
