A VARIETY of Summer mid-term fun will be taking place at Otley Courthouse.

The arts and resource centre has lined up film and theatre performances along with craft workshops to keep children entertained after the schools close on Friday, May 27.

First up, on Tuesday, May 31, will be a Planes Trains and Automobiles themed craft workshop organised to tie in with Image Musical Theatre’s performance of The Railway Children later in the week.

The event runs from 10am to 11.30am and will let participants use clay, paint, glue, paper and other materials to create something 'magical, fast and sleek'. Tickets cost £5.

Then on Thursday, June 2 another craft workshop will take place, this time to support the screening of the hit Pixar movie Inside Out.

The U rated film shows how 11 year old Riley’s emotions, led by Joy (voiced by Amy Poehler), try to guide her through the life-changing event of moving house.

Winner in the Best Animated Feature category at this year’s Academy Awards, BAFTAs and Golden Globes, the Courthouse is hailing the movie as "a must-see for both parents and children."

The film starts at 10am and will be followed by an 11.45am to 12.45pm workshop where children (aged seven and over) will get the chance to bring some of the characters from the movie to life.

Tickets for the film only cost £4 for adults and £2 for children, or £5 per child for film and workshop combined.

The half-term attractions will conclude with Image Musical Theatre's adaptation of classic children's story The Railway Children on Friday, June 3.

The family-focused musical shows how the lives of Roberta, Peter and Phyllis are shattered when their father is taken away by two strangers.

The children's mother is forced to take them from their comfortable London home to live in a simple country cottage and, whilst there, they learn about the local railway from their new friend, Perks.

The children soon fall in love with the railway and, when they save a train from disaster, help to solve the mystery of their father's disappearance.

The production follows a participatory format designed to gives the whole audience the chance to join in - and up to ten children will also have the opportunity to perform on stage.

Featuring dazzling costumes and enchanting sets and music by Robert Hyman, the performance begins at 2pm and is suitable for children aged five and over.

Tickets cost £8 for adults or £6 for children.
