Ilkley bar, The Yard has opened a unique concept, a Cider Emporium believed to offer the biggest selection of ciders in Yorkshire.

The Emporium officially opened on May 2 with free sampling and pork and apple flavoured themed nibbles.

It is to be a permanent feature and will include a choice of over 25 ciders at any one time, with new options introduced every two weeks, always with a minimum of six to eight draught choices and 20 to 25 bottled options.

Ciders on offer are pressed all over the world, including many at locations not immediately associated with cider, such as New Zealand, Italy, Wales and Yorkshire.

The Yorkshire cider hails from Pure North Cider Press and is called Valley Gold.

Robert North, owner of the Holmfirth Cider Press said: “We are delighted to be a supplier of quality Yorkshire cider to The Yard, Ilkley. “The Emporium is a fantastic idea and we look forward to supplying more of our range of ciders to them.”

Some of the unusual flavoured ciders, with some equally quirky names, that will be available include ‘Fanny’s Bramble’ Blackberry flavoured, ‘Herrljunga’, Strawberry and Vanilla flavoured, ‘Old Mout’ (New Zealand) which comes in Passion fruit, Summer Berries and Kiwi and Lime Flavours, ‘Manzana Loca’ (translated as Crazy Apple, Italian) and is Tequila infused and ‘Lily The Pink’ a fruity cider which is a gorgeous pink colour!

For those that simply cannot decide and want to try a few, they will be offering another unusual idea, a ‘Tasting Board’, which essentially is a wooden board filled with five third pint glasses of different ciders.

Ali Allawa, general manager said: “The inspiration for the idea came to me via a friend while on a skiing trip! The management team completed a three day research trip down to the home of cider, Somerset.

“Whilst we were there we met with cider farmers and visited a bar that already had a similar concept. We were really impressed and felt it was something we could offer, that potentially nowhere else in Yorkshire was offering.”

Ali added: “We have seen the popularity of cider really increase at ‘The Yard’ in recent years and it is especially popular during the spring/summer months, because it is so refreshing.”
