Otley Courthouse is to hold three weeks of Tour de France related events this summer.

The race’s Grand Depart comes to Otley on Saturday, July 5, and is expected to attract more than 20,000 visitors.

The Courthouse’s Tour-linked attractions will begin on Saturday, June 21, when it hosts Being Brel, a distinctly Gallic flavoured one-man-show about the life and works of Belgian singer Jacques Brel.

Then on Saturday, June 28, Harrogate Theatre and Il Pixel Rosso will present Le Grand Voyage - an interactive theatrical experience which places the audience at the heart of a fantastical cycle race.

And finally on Friday, July 11, the Courthouse will host Life Cycle, a show exploring the life of a lone cyclist that incorporates live music played on instruments made from bike parts.

Throughout June community arts organisation the Big Hoo-Ha Co, will create - among other things - scarecrow cyclists, or 'scareclists'.

Chairman of the Courthouse’s board of directors, Dave Robson, said: “We’re hugely excited by what the Tour means as a shared cultural event for the people that live here. I hope the wide range of activities, from knitting to storytelling to carnival parades, will encourage people to come down and try something new.”

The building will open early on race day when there will be entertainment, dancing and a big screen TV to cover the action. For more details, visit otleycourthouse.org.uk or call (01943) 467466.
